Clay stage

The artist working on the first part of the clay stage The artist working on the first part of the clay stage :The wet clay is built up to the level of the guide pegs with the sculptors hands. Proportions and sizes are measured at this stage. The clay has to be constantly sprayed with water to ensure it doesn't dry out and crack.  This photo shows the artist working on the second part of the clay stage This photo shows the artist working on the second part of the clay stage. The wet clay is then worked on using wooden tools. In the background are the few available photographs of the author that David has to work from.
 
the third part of the clay stage At this, the third part of the clay stage, David works closely with the photographs to add the finer details to the sculpture. The head has now been attached to the clay body The head has now been attached to the clay body. At this stage David is ensuring that the dimensions and proportions are correct, before adding the final detail to the body.
 
The head is removed to add the finishing touches The head is removed to add the finishing touches before it is finally placed back on the body. It is now ready to be molded in polyurethane rubber

The final details have now been added. On the 28th of June the council approved the work. It is now ready to be molded in polyurethane rubber before going to the foundry for casting.
